When people talk about the prospect of their house burning down, they often think about irreplaceable photos. Perhaps less so since we’ve become digital, but the photos handed down through generations are usually portraits, most definitely still considered valuable keepsakes. It’s what we have to hang onto, what is left of our ancestors. If I am taking, say, an author’s photograph, I work to put my subject at ease. I love it when the image reveals them at their best yet surprises the person with an deeper view into who they really are.
