Writing book reviews has enlivened my appreciation for a particular group of people: writers. Books are so often our best friends, there for us when we need a lift and a diversion. Because book reviews usually need to be brief, I’ve learned to express myself in short form – a hugely useful practice. If writing is a weird combination of bliss and pain, then reading is its antidote: pure pleasure.
